- Figure out why you’re procrastinating. Are you bored, scared, or don’t see the point? Understanding why will help you figure out how to stop.
- Break big tasks into small, doable steps. When things feel overwhelming, breaking them down into smaller pieces makes it easier to start and finish.
- Make SMART goals — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Knowing exactly what you want to achieve helps you get there.
- If something takes only 2 minutes or less, do it right away. Don’t let the little things pile up.
- Plan out your day with a schedule, and stick to it. Use tools like calendars or apps to keep yourself on track.
- Create a distraction-free workspace. Turn off notifications, close extra tabs, and do whatever it takes to keep your focus where it should be.
- Give yourself a little treat when you finish a task. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small.
- Be nice to yourself! If you slip up and procrastinate, don’t beat yourself up about it. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again.
- Share your goals with someone you trust, and have them check in on you to make sure you’re staying on track.
- Visualize success! Imagine how great it will feel to cross that task off your list. Let that image motivate you to get started.
Remember, the hardest part of any task is just getting started. Once you get the ball rolling, it’s easy to keep it going.
